Stop archive function for mail with a Gmai a/c

I have a gmail account and use Apple mail. The default action apperas to be to archive mail. Touching the box icon too quickly will archive the item. This can be overcome by holding the icon, however it is easy to archive in error.

The drop down option in the email list no longer has the delete option. See image.

I either file or delete all mail. I never want to archive a mail item, ever.

How do I get my iPad and iPhone to let me manage my mail the way I wish to, lose the stupidArchive function and have a delete option again as priority?

Thanks

Paul

Check your Mail settings for your Gmail account:

Settings > Mail > Accounts > [Your Gmail account] > Account > Advanced >

  • Mailbox Behaviours > Deleted Mailbox - select [On The Server] Trash
  • [Move Discarded Messages Into] - select Deleted Mailbox
