My space bar seems to be slightly glitchy. Occasionally, it doesn't register a space, or it registers two and I get a random period in my sentence. I have the 2018 13-inch MBP with the touch bar. Software issue? Hardware issue? How do I fix this?

Sometimes dirt & crumbs can jam up the key mechanism especially for the dreaded butterfly keyboards used on the 2016-2019 laptops. Here is an Apple article with instructions for cleaning the keyboard, just make sure to keep the can of compressed air completely upright or you can damage the laptop with the cold wet propellant.

More than likely the free Keyboard program @kaz-k mentions has expired for most people since it is only valid for 2016-2019 and only for four years after purchase.
