The "2 GHz Intel Core Duo" pegs it as a MacBook (13-inch) introduced in May 2006 that originally came with Mac OS X 10.4.6 ("Tiger"), has a 32-bit CPU, and can't un anything higher than Mac OS X 10.6.8 ("Snow Leopard"). All of the other possibilities for A1181 (from Late 2006 through Mid 2009) have 64-bit Core 2 Duo CPUs.

It replaced the iBook G4 (Mid 2005). Apple moved from PowerPC-based Macs to Intel-baed ones starting in 2006 and this was the first Intel-based model in the renamed entry-level (no "Pro") notebook line.

Apple discontinued it in November 2006 – more than 17 years ago. If you like collecting old computers – or if you have a source of old Mac OS X games that will run on it – you could keep it around. But as a platform for running modern applications, it's obsolete, and has been that way for a long time.

MacTracker shows a number of old MacBooks that have the model number A1181.

  • The MacBook (13-inch) introduced in May 2006 can't run anything later than Snow Leopard.
  • The Late 2006, Mid 2007, Late 2007, Early 2008, and Late 2008 models can't run anything later than Lion.
  • The Early and Mid 2009 models can't run anything later than El Capitan.

The MacBook (13-inch, Late 2008) and MacBook (13-inch, Aluminum, Late 2008) models came out at the same time, but are different in terms of the maximum version of Mac OS X they can run. The latter had model number A1278, so we know we're not dealing with one of them.
