How to create templates for Pages
iMac (2017 – 2020)
Normally, when we state "3 x 5," dimensions, we assume a landscape orientation where the height is 3 inches and the width is 5 inches. Keep that in mind when configuring a new Pages 3 x 5 document page, as it will be default be 3 inches wide and 5 inches deep with portrait (P) alignment.
To start with your custom page size, you visit Pages menu : Page Setup… panel. This will open with either Letter or A4 Paper size depending on your Region setting. Click that Paper Size selector and at its bottom will be Manage Custom Sizes… which you select.
The new Custom size panel will allow you to click the + symbol, which will add an Untitled entry. Double-click that and enter 3 x 5 and press return. Note that the Width and Height entries are for an implicit Portrait orientation so if you want a landscape oriented 3 x 5, then you need to enter 5 for width, tab, 3 for Height and a return. If you leave other settings at their default, you can then click OK. That will bring you back to this panel:
Clicking OK on this panel will then shrink your default page size to the new format. Now you can enter anything you want on that 3 x 5 card that should always appear on it as a template for future usage. The font settings, spacing, placeholder text, media placeholder, etc.
When that is done, it is File menu : Save as Template… and you will see this dialog:
By clicking Add to Template Chooser, a Choose a Template panel will appear with your new untitled entry in My Templates. Click once on the Untitled name and change it to 3 x 5 and press enter. It is now available to you in any future Template Chooser panel.
