How can I delete photos from Albums and Folders that I create permanently?

Using OS 13.6.4. I organise my photos into self created Folders and Albums. However I have noticed that when I delete photos from these albums/folders they still appear in Imports and are, therefore, not deleted. I would like to be able to delete them from my Folders/Albums and have them removed from Imports so that they are permanently deleted from Photos. Is there a way to do this?

Is there a way to keep only the photos in my (self created) Folders/Albums and delete all the rejects from imports?

I understand that if i delete from Imports (or Memories or any Photos Created album) it moves them to Recently Deleted and will be deleted after a period of time, but I want to delete from My Albums them be deleted permanently.

Are you asking about Photos on a Mac?

When you want to delete photos from your Photos Library while viewing the photos in an album, use the key combination ⌘⌫, not just the delete key alone. While viewing an album the delete key ⌫ is bound to "Remove from album", not to "delete photo from library". Holding down the command key ⌘ while hitting the delete key will change the command to delete the photo instead of removing it only from the album.

You (fluffyyellowbear) indicated that you know that when you delete a picture from Imports, that it goes to the Recently Deleted view for a month. The same is true for the ⌘⌫ method with images in an album that léonie described. You also said "I want to delete from My Albums them be deleted permanently." In that case, you can go to the Recently Deleted album and select the Delete All button, or select some pictures and choose the Delete button.

Please keep in mind that a large number of questions we see here in the Community deal with how to get "permanently deleted" files back. You can't.

The Imports view shows all the pictures that have been imported, in the order of import. You can't change that-- it provides a way of checking on what's going on with Photos. We can say, "Check Imports to see..." and count on it always being what it's supposed to be.

But you can make a Smart Album like this:

I use this to see which pictures added recently have not been put into an album. Smart Albums provide some of the great power of Photos!
