Can Apple TV 4K change TV HDMI input?

Hi,

I'm opening a new thread following this old one as I can't reply back: Can Apple TV Box Change TV HDMI Input? - Apple Community

I'm in the same situation, except I've already had the Apple TV for less than a week now. I just miss this one functionality the FireTV has: the ability to switch the TV HDMI input. But for me it's make or break. I need to be able to do that, but I can't find out how to do it with the Apple TV. Does anyone have a clue?

Not possible unfortunately. Feed it back here Feedback - Apple TV - Apple and then return the unit while it’s still eligible for full refund.

If that video is of a TV set with Fire OS or with Alexa support (unspecified for the video), then the voice assistant for the remote is telling the TV what to do (directly). That’s different. I kinda doubt if any external device would be able to instruct a TV to take input from a different HDMI port, no matter what brand, as such a function is not part of CEC. CEC can do “focus to me”, not “focus to other”.

IMO no chance, but file the feedback anyways. IR is too low-tech for Apple.

Thanks for you answers.

I still have the Fire TV and it's FireOS with Alexa support. You tell Alexa "change input" or "change input to XXX" and it cycles through or switches to the specified HDMI input.

I don't think that's CEC because if I'm in an other room, so without direct IR possible, and I tell Alexa to change input, it says OK but cannot actually change the input. So I think it triggers an IR signal from the remote to change the input. It seems weird that Amazon can do that but Apple cannot?

Is there any chance that this feature could be added in the future though software update?

Apple adding Alexa support? Seems unlikely, but not technically impossible. I doubt that they want to.

No I'm not talking about adding Alexa support 🙂, but the possibility to send an IR signal to change the HDMI input
