Forwarding messages to email - disable iMessage

I am attempting to forward messages from my iPhone to my Outlook accoutn. Both use the same Apple ID. Messages will only attempt to forward as an iMessage and the forwards do not go to Outlook. Even if I disable iMessage on the Phone, I can't get them to forward to mail. I simply get an error saying iMessage is disabled and the message can't be sent. How can I forward messages to email and avoid iMessage.

Text Message Forwarding not showing up in settings Important in cases when the Text Message Forwarding is not showing up in your iPhones settings: in iPhones' Settings/ Messages/ Send & Receive make sure you have your actual phone number selected under " You can receive iMessages to and reply to and reply from", not an email or iCloud account address. In addition you may need to restart your devices and wait few minutes for this settings to take effect and be able to use the text messages forwarding features between your Apple devices.

Does iOS 18 only allow editing messages in iMessage chats, not with Android users? I am unable to edit messages in iOS 18. The edit feature simply does not appear.
