Files are not organized and are placed at random on MacBook Air

I recently switched from Windows to Macbook. There is this one thing that none of my friends with Macbook recognize and it really annoys me.

When I move a file around anywhere on my Mac, I want the files that I put next to each other to be neatly structured. However, I can put my files literally anywhere, even if they overlap or touch each other.

Is this normal? On Windows there would be invincible squares where that files would automatically land in if you move them around.
