What do you mean by removing the trusted device in case the iphone is stolen?

Hi! My iphone got snatched and I did some few precautions to secure my account and other details (i.e., change icloud pass, gmail and shopping app pass, locked my debit card, sign out gmail accounts from that device). However, I don’t get why I have to remove my device from my trusted devices when I need to track my missing phone? Do I really have to do that? I get that it is necessary for safety but I wanted to retrieve my phone at all cost to the point that I filed a police report and even went for a stakeout with them when I was notified of the location of my phone. Please enlighten me

iPhone 6, iOS 12

Do NOT remove the phone from your account.

Doing so will release the activation lock, allowing the criminals to reset the phone and re-use / re-sell it as a fully-functional device.

Assuming that your phone was secured w/ a passcode - known ONLY to you and not easily guessed - your on-phone data is virtually irretrievable, even by sophisticated criminals.

Note that you MAY receive texts from the criminals attempting to phish your credentisls.

They are NEVER from Apple or any legitimate entity. Do NOT reply and NEVER follow any links they might provide - NO MATTER HOW POLISHED OR “OFFICIAL” they might appear.

Lastly, while it’s a positive personality trait to be hopeful, the odds of you EVER retrieving your phone are close to ZERO.

You might seriously consider “moving on” based on that pragmatic reality.
