Issues connecting to cellular data on iPhone After Update

Today I updated my iPhone form iOS 16.0 to 17.4. When I opened my phone I found that I was no longer connected to my cellular data. When my wifi is off and my cellular is on, I get popups saying “Cellular Data is Turned Off.” I also keep getting popups to update my carrier settings but when I click update it shows me the popup a second time. Then, it appears again a few minutes later. Something to note is that I am currently on roaming since I am out of my home country.

So far I’ve tried:

  1. restarting my phone
  2. resetting network settings
  3. deleting any vpns in settings
  4. updating my carrier in settings (this did not appear)
  5. manually setting my provider since i’m on roaming
  6. contacting tmobile support (they said ask apple)

Any idea what I could do to fix this issue? Haven’t found anyone on here with the same problem.

Today I found my network just stopped working. No message, no warning - just no cellular network. Come on Apple - how can an IOS update lose focus of the very basic needs of a mobile phone…. No excuse. Please sort this out asap. It had a massive impact on my work day! 🤯

⚠️ I found a solution. ⚠️

All you need to do is select the 2G/3G option and avoid using 4G or LTE. Go to Settings > Mobile Service > select your eSIM from the SIMs list > Voice & Data > select 2G or 3G (if possible).

I believe the main issue lies with the 4G/5G network settings in iOS. I hope this will be helpful.

I'm not getting that alert, but since updating to 17.4 I'm not able to make or receive calls. All outgoing calls fail.

Also, my phone number won't authenticate with iMessage--there's just a spinning waiting symbol next to it. These two things might be related, but I've tried all the same things as you above. It's driving me crazy. I need a working phone for my job.

So to recap, after updating to 17.4 I had issues with iMessage on 2 different sims (same network) phone calls not being received, personal hotspot not showing as an option and 4g not working, only LTE and 5g. I’m not able to use internet while on a phone call either.

After contacting both Apple and my carrier (EE in the uk) twice, I can confirm my issue is iOS/phone related, Apple engineers called me up today after a week of investigation, they refused to acknowledge it’s because of 17.4 and asked me to go to my carrier and ask them questions and investigate. After I called EE up and confirmed everything was working ok, I decided to put my physical sim (same network) into another iPhone logged into my account, straight away it worked perfectly, iMessage worked, personal hotspot showed up again and I was able to get 4g, calls everything.

conclusion, I’m having to transfer my eSIM to another phone temp until there’s an update on apples side. I’ve gone back to the Apple engineers to let them know, so will update when they get back to me, I’ve done all the troubleshooting they’ve asked me to do now so they can’t deny it’s not a problem anymore.

Same issues, updated software to 17.4.1 .. No cellular data. Went to carrier they try inserted a new E sim card and could not they, then they replaced physical Simm card with a new one and phone still did not have cellular data. Then went to Apple store they did full diagnostic on phone twice, then rebooted phone twice and, was told there nothing wrong with phone, but still had not cellular data, and it was a carrier issue. Not the case. It is defiantly software issue with Apple. I switched from android user to apple user in January 2024 and so far, not impress with support. in future will not be supporting Apple platform and products, going back to android.

I spent several days and no success. Factory reset doesn't help, even without backup restore - clean phone just ignoring sim. Reset through mac & IPSW also have no result.

This is unacceptable. Such big corporation sells premium products and cannot test software on basic phone functionality before releasing update. In modern world sim is a 2FA mechanism - I cannot use other services and bank accounts, shame on you Apple

Especially ridiculous that it is not possible to downgrade to previous version, even using IPSW - Apple just stop signing and supporting update from a MONTH AGO

Updated to iOS 17.4 on March 8th. No issues at all on March 9th, but today (March 10th) keep getting a popup that says "SIM Failure".

Troubleshooting I've tried so far that hasn't worked.

•Restarted iPhone

•Reset All Settings

•Reset Network Settings

•Factory reset from March 6th backup.

•Removed SIM card multiple times

•Tried eSIM and same thing

Verizon is telling me this is an iOS issue and has nothing to do with the carriers. This is absolutely ridiculous!
