Do all Macbooks with the Scissor Key Mechanism share the same type of keycaps?

Hey there! :)

Do all Macbooks that have the Scissor Key Mechanism share the same type of keycaps?

By "same type" I'm refering to the place where the key clips/connects into the keyboard hinge.

For example, this keycap has this type of clips. Do all Scissor Key Mechanism keyboards share this type of keycap clip position?

Thank you!

No. Apple will usually use at least two parts suppliers for the majority of the components making up an Apple device. Plus every new model has the chance of the scissor mechanism being different from the year before. If you need a replacement key cap, then you need to make sure you can find a vendor which clearly explains how to identify the type of scissor mechanism & key cap you have....sometimes the difference is very subtle.

For some Apple laptops, Apple may provide replacement key caps. Unfortunately from reading these forums, it seems people report that AASPs don't mention this fact when they inquire about having a key cap replaced even on a model that is known to have a key cap kit available. It doesn't help that Apple does not supply individual key caps, but only an entire kit of every key cap on the keyboard so it is unlikely you will pay just a $1 for a keycap, more likely $50+ if Apple provides a key cap kit for your model.

..mehiss..

While there are quality key replacements for Apple portables and desktop keyboards

you may need to look into this due to depth of details involved to get the correct ones.

[.In the past, these had been exact replacement keys, as provided by manufacturer.]

Over several years my finding has shown this product and company to provide quality

parts replacements in past; while it should be a standard, going ahead; hard telling.

In some instances the attention to detail is super important due to slight differences

within build model series of Mac, MacBook, MacBook Air, MB/Pro; PowerBook/iBook.

..iHave not done recent research of these lately; contact the company for add'l info..
