Is it worth buying an iPad today ?

Is it worth buying an iPad today ? Supposedly new ones coming out in 2024, just wondering if the 2 years old tablets are worth it. Thanks

Consider also getting a refurbished iPad which will give you a hefty discount on a slightly older model. This link is for the US store - if you are elsewhere look at your local Apple Online store.

Refurbished units are those which have been returned to Apple with a minor defect, and then workshopped by Apple technicians to return it to 100% state. It's worth bearing in mind that these units have had some intense scrutiny by qualified staff, an attention which items bought off the shelf have not had.

Apple here has some detail on what a refurbished model means.

While it is inevitable that new models of iPad will be released at some time in the future, until announced by Apple, contributors here have absolutely no insight into Apple's product development or release schedule. At this time, there is only speculation.

There are currently some fantastic deals available from retailers for current models of iPad. Even if new models are launched in the coming months, the current models still represent good options for purchase. While newer models may have improved specifications, performance gains are only likely to be noticeable when using benchmarking software.

If you wish to own the latest and most powerful model, then waiting might be an appropriate strategy - but recognise that even newer models may themselves be superseded in a one to two year timeframe. Chasing the latest specifications can be an expensive hobby.
