I recorded videos in landscape mode with 2 iPhones. I combined them with Multicam. When I put the clip on the timeline, the two clips in the Viewer screen show up in Portrait and are very small because they still show as landscape but in a portrait box. This has not happened before.
Can I change the viewer so that they show in landscape mode?

I take it that it appears horizontal inside a vertical frame when you add it to a project.
This just tells us that your project is vertical.
Press Command-J to open the Project Inspector, then click Modify, and choose the desired frame size.

That did the trick! The dialog box showed "Custom" for Video Format. I changed it to 1080HD and the two clips "righted" themselves.

Two possibilities; one is the iPhones got confused about which way was up and marked them as portrait. Select each file in the finder and hit the rotate button to reorient them 90 degrees with each click. Reopen FCP and they should now show as horizontal. The other is that project is set to portrait.
