After Sonoma 14.4 update USB hub not working on MacBook

I have my MacBook (MacBook Pro 16 M2 Pro) connected to my monitor (Gigabyte M34WQ 34 Inch IPS Ultrawide WQHD (3440 x 1440)) via a thunderbolt 3 cable.

I have my keyboard and mouse connected to the USB ports in my monitor.

After updating, my keyboard and mouse are no longer being detected on my MacBook.

Before updating, it was working fine.

I can't find anything online about this issue

Can anyone help?

thanks

I had the same issue with an LG monitor connected by USB3 -- the mouse plugged into the USB hub on the monitor didn't work after the 14.4 upgrade.

Rebooting, reconnecting wires, etc, didn't help.

However, this worked:

  1. System Settings->Privacy&Security->Allow accessories to connect->Ask every time
  2. Turn off monitor (at the wall is best) and disconnect it
  3. Reboot
  4. Reconnect the monitor then turn it on.

At this point I got a popup asking if I agreed to the assessory and I answered yes. Since then the mouse works fine. Hopefully it will stay that way.

I have a similar problem. I have MacStudio and after updating to Sonoma 14.4, the hub in Dell u4919dw to which I connected the keyboard, mouse and sound card does not work. Interestingly, when I connect a mouse and keyboard to the rear USB-A ports, it doesn't work either. The sound card connected to the rear USB-A port works properly. If I want to connect a keyboard and mouse, I have to use an external hub connected to the USB-C port. Does anyone have an idea to solve this problem?

Having the same issue, but with the 2020 11” iPad Pro with the USB-C port. After the 17.3 iPadOS update, the iPad will no longer charge. I went as far as buying a genuine Apple charger and cable from the Apple store - no change.

I can connect the iPad Pro to my MacBook Pro M1, which I HAVE NOT updated, and the iPad will charge plugged into the MacBook Pro.

Thanks for the heads up! I will not update to Sonoma 14.4. They definitely broke something!

I have a 1.5TB microSD card in a flush-mounted adapter always attached to my M3 Max MacBook Pro for extra storage. After the 14.4 update I got a message, "Drive ejected improperly," after the reboot. Since then the microSD card is not detected by the OS. The card works fine in a Caldigit TS4 reader.

The Apple diagnostic for my machine reports that the in-built SD card reader is working fine.

I have my M2 MBP attached to a Dell S3221qs (think that's the model number). I don't use the usb hub in the monitor. However I do have an OWC thunderbolt 3 dock connected. Mac doesn't see it or my backup drive no matter what I do. tested a generic usb-c hub I have with the same results, not seeing external usb/thunderbolt hubs.

I've tried all the suggestions offered without success. looks like apple missed a big bug on this release. the QA folks missed one big time.

I'm having the same issue on an M1 iMac with an external Seagate Ultra Slim portable hard drive I use as my Time Machine backup. Called in to support and they said there was nothing they could do, figured the hard drive might be fried. Yesterday, it showed up on my desktop and was working fine. Today, I made it a point to look at something and sure enough, it's not there again. Definitely an operating system issue. Just waiting on a fix now.

I just spoke with a Senior Advisor at Apple about this issue.

My setup: wired mechanical keyboards (I have about a dozen) connected to my iogear GUS432 KVM connected to my LG 38WK95C display's USB hub connected via USB-C to my 14" M1 Pro MacBook Pro.

My flavor of this issue: the other 3 peripherals connected to my KVM - mouse, mic and webcam - all work fine. It's only my keyboards that don't when connected via the KVM. Also, my keyboards work normally when connected via KVM to the other machine on the KVM - a Windows-based Intel NUC. Finally, the few keyboards I have that can also connect wirelessly via Bluetooth work fine over Bluetooth, just not in wired mode via the KVM.

We ruled out the LG display's USB hub by connecting the KVM directly to the MBP so that the connectivity is like-for-like with the Windows machine. Still no dice.

The SA said that most likely there was a security vulnerability that was addressed in 14.4 and that in such cases where third-party peripherals are at play Apple typically won't send these cases up to Engineering. My options are to either downgrade the machine, which requires a complete reinstall, or to reach out to iogear as manufacturers will need to conduct their own testing and if they find this to be a big enough problem, they have more clout with Apple than you or I as individual customers.

This truly sucks. I've been happily using this KVM for 2 years.
