After Sonoma 14.4 update USB hub not working on MacBook

I have my MacBook (MacBook Pro 16 M2 Pro) connected to my monitor (Gigabyte M34WQ 34 Inch IPS Ultrawide WQHD (3440 x 1440)) via a thunderbolt 3 cable.

I have my keyboard and mouse connected to the USB ports in my monitor.

After updating, my keyboard and mouse are no longer being detected on my MacBook.

Before updating, it was working fine.

I can't find anything online about this issue

Can anyone help?

thanks

I had the same issue with an LG monitor connected by USB3 -- the mouse plugged into the USB hub on the monitor didn't work after the 14.4 upgrade.

Rebooting, reconnecting wires, etc, didn't help.

However, this worked:

  1. System Settings->Privacy&Security->Allow accessories to connect->Ask every time
  2. Turn off monitor (at the wall is best) and disconnect it
  3. Reboot
  4. Reconnect the monitor then turn it on.

At this point I got a popup asking if I agreed to the assessory and I answered yes. Since then the mouse works fine. Hopefully it will stay that way.

Same issue here - running two Dell monitors and also have a KVM...

The Mac won't recognize the external monitors through the KVM now....

Love my MAC but this has to be fixed - 3 windows comps hooked up and they are working fine. Even after the USB hub update the monitors still can't be seen. Using an Iogear 1944 KVM connected to pluggable usb hub to turn the thunderbolt connect to 2xdisplay port outputs....worked fine for years until the last update that broke everything

My USB hub with SSD was not working after the 14.4.1 update on my M2 Mac Mini. It was working on 14.4 but the “bug” update apparently caused it to stop being recognized. What worked for me is I shut it down and unplugged everything and then started up the Mac Mini without the USB Hub plugged in. I plugged it in waited a while and it was finally recognized again.

How are you powering the MacBook? Are you using MagSafe or connecting a USB C cable to the power supply and pass through the hub? I posted this earlier:

"I had a similar issue with the latest Sonoma update 14.4.1. I was using “pass through power” via a USB C hub that had my HDMI, 1 x 4TB SSD, 1 x 5TB spinning disk & supplying power to a USB C Port for syncing iPads. They all failed to work once the update was applied. A support call to Apple found that “Electron paramagnetic resonance“ was the blame. The latest patch will not let you use pass through power is the output of the hub is “questioned” by the OS. I went back to using the Mag Safe power adapter and the hubs now work. I also found out that Apple support was notified ~March 27th 2024 of this restriction."

hi I have my MacBook Pro 2023 M2 Max updated to 14.5 and still didn't solve anything regarding the ports. It's frustrating, because it reads my external hardrive but it wouldn't read any dj controller or any extended hubs. Even if I put it on allow or ask for allow. I deleted the os then reinstall the os,

down grade the os updated it back again,

and still nothing seems to work! A lot of money spent on this laptop and i can't even use it to do my dj jobs. I never had this issue before Sonoma 14.4 came out I know my ports working just dose not connect to any dj controllers this is sad Apple.

I have a Mac mini M1 and after updating to Sonoma 14.5 I am having the same issue as others. Both my HP Envy 4500 printer and Logi C270 external camera stopped working. Actually, I think this may have happened when I did 14.4 update. Both the above are connected to an Insignia (Best Buy) hub I purchased in 2020. I disconnected both the printer and camera and plugged them directly into the M1 and both work. So, is the hub that old that the update doesn't recognize it? Should I just buy a new hub that hopefully recognizes Sonoma?

Tim,

Thank you for the information and actually talking the "hit" on this problem. I had issues with 4.4 & 14.4.1 with two hums on a MacBook Pro M1 and have been holding off on the latest update. If Apple would incorporate a roll-back solution I'd go to 14.5 today and hope I don't have any issues. Now 15.0 is looking like the next upgrade here. I'm not about to fix something that's not broken. :-(
