WhatsApp pics are appearing duplicated on Photos on iPhone

Same issue with iPhone 15 pro after updating to IOS 17.4 or since the latest WhatsApp update 24.5.4 (2 days ago). Not sure which one is the troublemaker.

Same issue, after the update, i am getting two duplicate pictures in my gallery?? What is the solution to solve

i thought my phone was hacked and I reset my phone… so angry right now on apple. They not even bothered to send a notification of this error or whatever it is

i dont think bcos of ios update bcos my iphone 6s also facing this issue after updating latest version of whatsapp, so i guess its whatsapp issue

I have the exact same issue, never had this problem until a couple of days ago. No update available for me on App Store and photos still being duplicated

Was facing the same issue from 3 days. The issue is with WhatsApp and they released an update 18 hrs ago which addresses this issue. Just updated and I think it is resolved :)

I am having the same problem right after the iOS 17.4 update but I am having another issue before updating i.e whenever i send a media through WhatsApp it take **** lot of time and keeps processing to send the file.

Solved!!!, just update to the latest WhatsApp version, as of March 12 there is an update released 18 hours ago. First search WhatsApp on the AppStore and click on WhatsApp, by clicking on it, it’ll show you the update, just update it.

I have just updated to IOS 17.4. I thought the problem of downloading whatsApp picture into duplicate in the photos was solved. Can Apple finish this problem so we can no longer manually merge the duplicates and saves us more time?

You guys, all you need is to update the whatsapp and problem is settle. I've tried to download any picture before the update and yet it shows duplicate photos or video. But right after I update the version of whatsapp and give it a try with photos or videos download, it already back to normal that only 1 photos/video is downloaded

I am unable to solve this problem from the WhatsApp end but here is a temporary solution. Instead of deleting the duplicates individually, you can use the following method to delete (or merge) duplicates at once (copied from Delete photos on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support )

Delete duplicate photos and videos

1. In the Photos app, tap Albums.
2. Tap the Duplicates album under Utilities.
3. Tap Merge to combine the duplicates.
4. Tap Merge [Number] Items to confirm.

When you merge duplicate photos, your phone combines the highest image quality and relevant data to keep one photo in your library. The other duplicate photos move to your Recently Deleted album.

The Duplicates album is available on iOS 16, iPadOS 16.1, and later. The duplicates detection process happens automatically and may take some time.
