I am replacing my old HP printer with a new Envy Inspire 7220e (purchased from Apple). Do I need to remove all old software before installing printer? Old software is glitchy and no longer scans.

No, but I would and I NEVER EVER use the manufacturer's apps. I always use what Apple provides, do not use any HP apps.
