I am unable to arrange my screens when connecting my iPad Pro M1 to a monitor

I have an iPad Air M1 and arrangements is not an option, I have a 16.9 fhd monitor. Stage manager on. Connected directly to to my monitor via usb c to hdmi.

extremely frustrating spending $1500 on a set up for it to not work as advertised. Tried multiple cables hubs and no luck.

I have myself verified this behaviour with both an Apple USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter - and a Kingston Nucleum USB-C hub - both connected via HDMI to a compatible external monitor. With iPadOS 17.4, Stage Manager only becomes available if an external Keyboard and Mouse/Trackpad are connected to iPad before connecting the external monitor.

The behaviour with 17.3.1 and earlier differed - in that Stage Manager was available whether or not an external Keyboard and Mouse/Trackpad were connected. While this arrangement arguably had limited utility without attached Keyboard etc. - as you could not directly interact with Apps displayed - it was still possible to display an App on the external monitor (e.g., streaming video). With iPadOS 17.4, this capability has been lost.

If you have not already done so, you might be well advised to submit feedback and/or a Bug Report via Apple's Product Feedback portal.

Some other contributors report that the dedicated Magic Keyboard for iPad, with integral Touchpad, does not trigger availability of Stage Manager in iPadOS 17.4.

An external mouse (e.g., Apple Magic Mouse) or external Trackpad (e.g., Apple Magic Trackpad) does trigger availability of Stage Manager and associated settings for an external monitor.

As already outlined, detection relies upon connection of the external Keyboard and Mouse/Trackpad before connecting an external monitor.

This is the issue. When mirroring, Stage Manager for the external monitor is not active. Stage Manager provides the extended desktop independent of the iPad screen.

There are multiple threads within ASC discussing this very issue...

While mirroring the iPad screen to the external monitor, Stage Manager for the iPad screen remains available.
