Daylight Saving Change and Time Issue 2024

Dear Apple,

My husband and I both set our alarms so that we could make a flight. Mine was set for 2:15 am and my husband’s was set for 2:30 am. My alarm went off, but it was 3:15 am. Both of us checked the time we had set our alarms for on our iPhones and we had set them correctly - 2:15 and 2:30 am. Needless to say we had to scramble to get out of the house.

Please fix this issue.

Airports account for DST when displaying flight schedules. So, the departure and arrival times you see on your ticket or at the airport will reflect the local time with DST applied.

Apple devices are designed to automatically adjust the time for DST. So, any alarms set between 2:00 am and 2:59 am will automatically be shifted forward by one hour to the new 3:00 am time.

I know you understand DST***, here are some tips to avoid missing alarms in the future:

  • Airlines typically account for DST during flight scheduling. So, the flight information you received (boarding pass, itinerary, etc.) would have reflected the departure time with DST applied.
  • The information you provided didn't explicitly mention the flight time or booking process.
  • It's likely the flight was scheduled for sometime after 3:00 am, considering you missed your 2:00 am alarm due to DST.
  • Before going to bed on nights with a DST change, double-check your alarms to ensure they reflect the intended wake-up time in the new time zone.

*** "Daylight saving time starts at 2 a.m. on March 10, 2024, the second Sunday of March. The morning will stay dark a little later than you're used to, but that also means daylight will stretch an hour further into the afternoon and evening."

Sure... but that time literally doesn't exist. There was no 2:30 am last night (technically morning of March 9).

To me, what makes sense is for them to take all alarms from 2:00 to 2:59 and shift them an hour earlier. If you have to be somewhere at 3:15am, and you set your alarm for 2:30am, when accounting for the time change you would need to be woken up at 1:30am. This would allow for the alarm to go off 45 minutes before you need to be at the place.

I have a slightly different issue, but also daylight saving time related…

my phone automatically updated to the correct time and when I ask Siri what time it is she tells me the correct time but when I ask her how many minutes until any given time in the near future She adds an extra hour.

if it’s 9:25 PM and I ask her how many minutes until 9:30 PM, she says "it’s 65 minutes until then.“ She’s been doing that all day.

It happened me today. Set my alarm at 10pm last night before I went to sleep. One alarm at 05:50 to wake me up and another alarm at 06:15 to let me know I need to get in the car and drive to work to be there for 06:45.

the alarm woke me up and said it was 05:50. The alarm told me it was 06:15 so I got in my car, but when I arrived to work it was in fact 07:45. My colleague in the states had to stay back an hour because I was an hour late!!! How Apple???
