Daylights Savings - 2am Alarm Set.

3/10/2024 - Had an alarm set for 2:00am this morning and Apple did not alarm! Daylight savings jumped right to 3:00am! Airplane to catch! I understand Daylights Savings and all but Apple may have an opportunity to assist/reminder of this!

Airports account for DST when displaying flight schedules. So, the departure and arrival times you see on your ticket or at the airport will reflect the local time with DST applied.

When Daylight Saving Time (DST) starts, clocks spring forward one hour, effectively losing the 2:00 am hour.

Apple devices are designed to automatically adjust the time for DST. So, any alarms set between 2:00 am and 2:59 am will automatically be shifted forward by one hour to the new 3:00 am time.

While you mentioned you understand DST, here are some tips to avoid missing alarms in the future:

  • Airlines typically account for DST during flight scheduling. So, the flight information you received (boarding pass, itinerary, etc.) would have reflected the departure time with DST applied.
  • The information you provided didn't explicitly mention the flight time or booking process.
  • It's likely the flight was scheduled for sometime after 3:00 am, considering you missed your 2:00 am alarm due to DST.
  • Before going to bed on nights with a DST change, double-check your alarms to ensure they reflect the intended wake-up time in the new time zone.

Where did I say this was Apples fault? If you read this “but Apple may have an opportunity to assist/reminder of this!”. My ask is that Apple has an opportunity, which is NOT faulting them. Yes. 2am does not exist technically. This scenario loosing 1 hr between 2 and 2:59 only happens once a year and yet not even in every state! I am just asking, as yes I take blame, but asking if they may have a way to alert this to the end user when this does occur and an alarm is set between 2-2:59.
