Just discovered after a series of other small disappointments that my iPhone 12 Pro entirely lacks the ability to take close-up photos in focus. Yes I know this is an "older" iPhone, but that does not make the defect excusable.
Well, Apple... you win. I'm switching to a different phone platform after using the iPhone since day one. Congratulations.

Whether they had better macro photographic capabilities or not, the iPhone 12 simply doesn't. No one can do anything about that. If you need macro photography as an important feature, you need to a newer Pro model (don't buy a non-Pro model as they don't offer macro).
There is a simple workaround. Take a photo from at least 12 inches away from the subject, which is in focus. Then crop the photo after you've taken it which will in essence deliver a macro photo.

You're not writing Apple on this user to user only forum. We don't honestly care if you think another cell phone would work better for you. I hope you enjoy whatever you purchase.
It is true however, that at the time iPhone 12 Pro was manufactured, it did not include macro photography. iPhone 13 Pro, 14 Pro and 15 Pro Models do, however. Being mad that a phone from almost 4 years ago doesn't have a capability you expect it to have seems kind of unreasonable. If you really need macro photography, newer models offer it.

I see that I'm among some swell "IT dudes" here. The phones before the 12 Pro had better macro ability, smart guy. And frankly I'll come here and vent as I please.
