Exporting Photos Library

I want to use another Photo management program and want all my pictures - in my Photos llibrary now - exported to a different disk. How can I achieve that? AND: can that be done without a degrading in quality AND with all the meta information I added in the mean time?

Thanks in advance

File -> Export. Inspect the options that offers you. Unmodified originals is exactly that - the shot as imported from your camera. YOU can export added metadata as sidecar files. For more detail, I suggest you go to the Help menu in Photos, Select Photos Help, and in the resulting window look under the 'Share Photos and Videos section for the Export Photos and Videos... heading.

Depending on the destination application you're going to it is worth noting that some apps can migrate a Photos library to their own formats, and there are apps that may help in this process, such as

Photos keeps the original image files un-altered. That means that the edits and new comments are not part of the file. However, in the Export dialog you can see that you can export the metadata with the picture:

You will get two files, like DSC_3994.JPG and DSC_3994.xmp.

The "xmp" sidecar file carries the extra information. You should try it with a file or two, and import them into your new system to see how it responds. You may have to import the two files at the same time, or there may be other requirements depending on the program you use.
