Moving iCloud documents.

I use my laptop to play the Sims 4 and install mods. To synch it, I have to keep all the documents and files in my iCloud. My MacBook has 1 TB of storage and I have plenty left to use, however, my iPhone is registered under the same iCloud account (and I'd like to keep it that way) but since these files synch into my phone, it uses up an insane amount of storage, and my phone is not able to be backed up. How can I stop these files specifically from transferring over to my phone?
