Apple Watch update 10.4 stuck at Preparing

I have the same issue, stuck on preparing, plus the watch will not let me in. Cannot even enter the pwd.

Attempting a reset does not work.

So I am unable to delete the update.

Same here but I deleted the update and my battery has been fine through the night

The same thing happened to me and still cannot update the watch. I wouldn't have bought an Apple watch if I had seen these comments before.

That didn’t work for me. Still gets stuck in the exact place during Preparing. Think I’ll just wait until somebody at Apple wakes up and fixes this obvious issue.

I should have said I kept the app on my phone open. Again, my problem is solved.

I was also stuck in preparing mode. I restarted my iPhone and watch and then deleted the update from general/storage, reinstalled it and it worked

Same. After so many attempts, I concede defeat.

I was able to update my iwatch- don't ask me how all the sudden it moved past the preparing update to installing.

that solved the battery drain as well as updating to ios 10.4. The battery drain must be due to the watch stuck in a “Preparing” loop??

Having the issue. Tried ideas with no luck. Now cannot even download the update because it wants me to unlock the watch - which I can’t because of the stupid incorrect password message.

This happened to me a couple months ago. So infuriating. I got past it by updating my phone, then the watch started working again. Make sure your phone is up to date.
