Battery Drain Apple Watch Series 9

after updating to 10.4 on series 9 watch battery drain is awful. I can get it to last the first day, shut it down and turn on next day and battery just dies within a few hours. Goes from 64% to 50% in a matter of minutes. Fitness does not recognize that I have stood for my minute either. have to charge it in the morning which defeats the purpose

I charged my series 9 to 100% this morning around 10:00. It’s now 19:30 and it’s at 3%.

This has been a huge problem for me. I've removed apps, done everything I can think to do and my Series 9 watch w 10.4 update STILL drains within hours! I've tried to Power Off (and that wasn't easy!) and still have an issue. PLUS my watch seems to get awfully hot for some reason at times. Does anyone have any idea how this can be resolved or if it's a known issue?

After the most recent update, my Apple Watch (7) battery started to drain rapidly and would t hold a charge through one day. Thinking it was the watch, I bought the 9 series and am experiencing the same thing. My husband has not updated his Watch 9 series and his battery lasts 2-3/charge.

Apple meeds to fix this. It’s unreasonable to spend this much on a watch that cant even last one day. I get home from work and have to charge it before working out so I can use the fitness tracking apps.

Ive been diligent about closing apps throughout the day, but theres been no improvement—- and I didnt close any apps before the update and my battery lasted.

It many times is the result of third party apps. During the update process they become unstable and go into a looping pattern that causes the Watches processor to run all the time which can quickly deplete the battery. It can also be caused by memory leaks in 3rd party software too. The fixes, as you discovered, are to force stop the software and which stops the processor and allows functions to return to normal.

One thing I noticed was that the watch was showing a 100% charge much faster that it had before I did the software update. I originally thought that was a good thing, but I wonder if the problem is not that the battery is discharging much faster than before, but that it thinks it is fully charged when it is not. I went ahead and followed the suggestions to unpair the watch and phone and then do a hard reset on both. The watch is now re-paired and, on the charger, and appears to be charging at the old rate. If this doesn't work, the best option might be to unpair again and restore from an older backup.

What is required is a forced restart of your Apple Watch. A forced restart is more than just turning your Watch off and on. Observe the battery usage for the next 24 to 72 hours. If there is no improvement you’ll need to unpair the Watch from your iPhone, force restart the Watch and the iPhone and lastly pair the two devices. Battery usage will return to normal in 24 to 72 hours.
