Empty folders in Motion Templates Final Cut Pro

Hi! All my folders (Effects, titles, Generators,Transitions) are empty in my Motion templates Folder in Final Cut. There is also the ".localized" added when I press on the information about these folders.

So where are the actual effects ? I can use them in final cut but I would like to copy them but as the folders are all empty, I can not find the files to copy.

Can anyone help me out? Thanks 🙏

The effects, transitions, titles and generators that come with FCP are stored inside the application itself.

The folders you mentioned are for other templates that you can get from third parties or create yourself using Motion.

Do you have Motion?

If you do, you can control-click on existing templates in FCP and choose "Open a copy in Motion", then you can make changes or just save that copy in a category of your choice, and that will place it in the proper place in the folder hierarchy inside Motion Templates.

Not necessarily - though Motion is a great application, and would let you customize your templates to your heart's content.

One thing you can do, with effects at least, is to "Save Effects Preset".

When you do so, you can put these presets in any category that you want, including categories that you create, and do that right inside FCP.

If all you want is keep an instance of an effect in a "Favorites" category:

  • add the effect to some clip, open the Inspector, and do Save Effects Preset; give it a name (it can be the same, or a different one), and choose a category.

Now, this is not limited to one effect, it will save any combination of effects, with the settings that you have applied, and save them.
