Pages, source for the gallery.

Can someone help me with my question if it is possible and if so how to change the source in the gallery when I have to insert images. It seems that it automatically goes to Pictures, I want to be able to download pictures from e.g. usb or another place on the computer.

Sincerely

When you insert an Image Gallery into Pages and click the [+] symbol, it will present the file chooser location last opened in the Image Gallery panel. When I opened it just now, it was my Desktop. Later, after I had inserted an image from my Synology DiskStation Share, the next [+] addition opened to that same share location.

Pop in a USB stick and it appears mounted on the File Chooser Locations sidebar. My Synology DiskStation appears in that Locations sidebar, and when I click on it, the share mounts in that same File Chooser window. Also, while the File chooser is open, you can navigate anywhere in the sidebar, and even invoke the Go To Folder dialog with shift+cmd+G.

You can drag and drop images into that Image Gallery side bar from an open Finder Window and do not need to click the [+] button to open a File Chooser for Gallery image selection.

The first image dropped in that Gallery Images column will then populate the blank Gallery panel in the document. Then you can drag and drop additional image entries in that Gallery listing and drag to rearrange in your preferred order of appearance. This Gallery is associated with the current Pages document and is not persistent across other documents.

For future Gallery repetition, you can store the images in a separate folder, select all of them, and then drag the bunch into the Gallery Images sidebar and they will populate in that location in the order they appeared in the source folder in the Finder. Case in point, here is an image where I have just dragged and dropped the images as shown in the Finder window and they appear in that order as stated above:

Yes, you can drag/drop those images in the Image Gallery to other locations in your document, but the Image Gallery remains filled with the first image in its Images list. I think you will find it simpler to have a Finder folder with the specific images and drag and drop them onto the open Pages document page rather than drag from the Image Gallery list. I found this latter effort cumbersome.

Thanks for a nice answer I think I understand, I just tried it.

Something that struck me when I now when I got this question answered is.

Is it possible to create an image bank in the right field like in some other word processing programs. Now when I click on insert and image gallery, the box for the image appears in the text so I can select an image for the purpose.

But is it possible to skip the checked box for the image and just save images in the gallery on the right so that I can later retrieve them and insert them.

It got a bit messy it's...

I probably understand what you mean, but I probably have a little trouble explaining myself. What I mean is to have an image bank/gallery on the right side so that you can more easily drag images from there to some place in my document page. That is, I fill this bank with images from any page in the Finder without marking any place on a document page.
