Samsung M2070w scanner is not recognized, driver install fails

After upgrading to a Macbook Air with an M1 processor (2020), I found that my scanner is not recognized anymore. (Printing works fine.)

The issue has been discssed in various posts. None of the solutions proposed helped to resolve the issue thus far, however.

I did learn that when trying to download from the HP support website, the MacOS version is not properly recognized and needs to be changed manually to access the latest driver version (3.93.08, https://support.hp.com/at-de/drivers/closure/samsung-xpresssl-m2070-laser-multifunction-printer-series/model/16450387).

After downloading, I can install the printer driver just fine. However, when I try to install what appears to be the scanner driver (ICDM.pkg) in the MAC_ICDM directory of the installer package, the install process results in an "install failed" message without providing any further detail.

I have manually copied the "Samsung Scanner.app" in the Data/Payload directory of the ienstaller package to the Applications folder, but that did not appear to change anything.

Has anyone dealt with the same isue of the failing installer and can possibly offer a solution?

If you have tried Apple's Image Capture and it does not recognize the scanner component, you may be out of luck from Hewlett-Package providing newer driver support for this aging device. The paid (free trial) of VueScan Professional does support the scanner on this device without any Canon or Apple software or drivers. VueScan would expect a USB cable connection to the scanner.

This Samsung M2070w is supported by Apple's builit-in AirPrint when networked (wired/wi-fi) and once configured, should also be supported by Apple's Image Capture. Due to the age of the device, you can probably forget about Hewlett-Packard furnishing current drivers that resolves all issues.

With the SL-M2070w networked (without any USB cable connection), and powered, you could visit System Preferences : Printers & Scanners panel. Right-click on its Printers entry to Reset the print system, and then re-add the device through the subsequent Bonjour discovery panel. There, you would click on the discovered device name and that would automatically populate the Use: selector for AirPrint. Then click Add. And then, check if Apple's Image Capture recognizes your scanner component.
