How to exit from full screen to return to the standard view ?

Have looked everywhere for the answer to this question - and believe when I say everywhere. (I won't rant about Apple 'support' here.)

I need the keyboard short cuts to enter full screen and then return to regular finder. I've done this by accident a time or two but can't seem to repeat the keystrokes correctly.
