How to fix time machine "Skipping" issue while backing up my Mac

Trying to back up my Mac Studio using an external drive and Time Machine. After about 20% done, it says "skipping" on it, stops, and kicks my Lexor Drive off of my desktop. I have already done a search on AI and tried their suggestions. Don't understand the word "skipping" that comes up, and then STOPS, and even removes the icon from the desktop. Any suggestions?

In addition to Grant Bennet-Alder excellent suggestion, I would also like to suggest that you grab a free utility from The Eclectic Light Company, called the "The Time Machine Mechanic". It reads through your Mac's system logs and creates a summary of the Time Machine backup(s) process so that you can get a better idea of what's going on ... or not going on.

BACKUP Drive.

My thought was that the Backup Drive has some Directory issues, and that is what caused your backup to both be interrupted and the drive to be dismounted.

It is not a bad idea at all to do the Boot drive as well, but that has to be from recovery as Tesserax suggested, or just the Volume by restarting in Safe Mode (which does the Boot Volume automatically as MacOS starts up.)
