Why is my Apple TV not showing the airplay password

When I try to do AirPlay it says I need a pin when it doesn’t have a pin on

iPad, iPadOS 16

Find your Apple TV model number - Apple Support


The receiving device may want a 4-digit pairing code as displayed on the screen, or else an AirPlay password as configured in Settings. The toggle between these two is to turn on or off the requirement for a password. The initial password may be obfuscated (••••••). Turn off–on for a new random 6-digit password, or change manually to a new string.
