How to highlight in Books by default on iPad

How to highlight in iBooks by default without menu on top every time I select text in mini ipad.

Books IPad OS - Underline feature pdf This is a basic issue that has not yet been resolved. I am not able in iPad OS(12.9) Books app to only underline, the system forces me to highlight in colour, and then thereafter to select the underline feature, then only delete the colour highlight. This has been the case for a few months, but it has not been addressed. Is anyone having the same problem?

How can I select text in Books Highlighting and copying lines in Books. I can’t select any text in recently purchased Apple books. I like to do that to take notes. Also sometimes I want to look up definitions of single words by selecting them. I no longer can select text in Books.
