What is com.apple.imagent on my iPhone?

I realize that engineers are the ‘Go To’ for analytics, but since Apple support has told me that I am unable to discuss concerns, or have an engineer look at my phone; I am turning to the Community for possible answers.

app_name :imagent

bundleID:com.apple.imagent

is_first_party:1

os_version:iPhone OS 17.4 (21E219)

procRole: Unspecified

isEmbedded: true

train: iPhone OS 17.4

releaseType: User

reportNotes: ["PC register does not match crashing frame (0x34 vs 0x1D0743E78)"]

*I do not knowingly have an app “IMAGENT”

whether that be ‘IM Agent’ (I do not have any Instant Message app)

or

‘Image NT’ (NT Authority?)

*Similar details are associated with a ‘File Provider Override’

-I do not use iCloud Storage- except for the inability to choose not to sync GameCenter, which I do not use

app_name:LocalStorageFileProvider

CFBundleIdentifier:com.apple.FileProvider.LocalStorage

name: FileProviderOverride

name: iCloudDriveFileProviderOverride

Insight is appreciated

  • imagent is a process that runs on all iPhones to detect iMessage or FaceTime calls. The process runs whether you use those apps or not and is baked into iOS.
  • PC register does not mean "Personal Computer". The PC is a register on the CPU chip that is called Program Counter.
  • FileProvider is the Framework used to save file. This can be used to save files directly on the device or saved to iCloud. Without it, your iPhone would not be operable.

As for insight, you will find no useful information provided by Analytics data. If you are experiencing a problem with your device, then post that issue here. Don't go looking for an answer in the Analytics data, because it won't be found in there.

Well- the problem, Jim, is that I do not use FaceTime. In fact, I have FaceTime uninstalled.

That situation is documented in my authored question

No one has answered that question.

No one has answered my question regarding ‘unwelcome GameCenter’ syncing.

I think it seems reasonable to inquire the origins of an iCloud Drive File Provider Override - part of the information posted in this question.

Also, and I was not thinking ‘PC’ means ‘Personal Computer’

More likely, in context, it seems a reference to Process Control
