Apple SuperDrive Model 1379 is not working with 2015 MacBook Pro

Help! I have a 2015 MacBook Pro whose operating system is updated. The Apple SuperDrive Model 1379 that uses USB to view DVD’s etc is not working. Trying to install TurboTax software but get an error message. It ejects the Drive and then will not recognize it. Is the drive broken? Read one article that says it doesn’t work after 2020 operating systems were installed. Is this true? Apple is still selling it….

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 12.7

Yes, but to which USB port? One on the MacBook Pro itself or is it plugged into a hub or dock adapter. The SuperDrive only works if it is plugged directly to a USB port on your MacBook. If it’s plugged into a USB Hub or Docking Station it will not work.

Well, it’s gotten to the point of admitting that, in your case, there is no solution. So you might want to consider obtaining a new CD/DVD drive and see if it works. If it does then you know the problem is with the drive itself and that it may be defective. CD/DVD drives today are well under $100. Apple SuperDrive is $79. Just about every major manufacturer of hardware are offers inexpensive CD?DVD drives. I have a Samsung drive that I paid under$50 for at my local Microcenter store and it works with my M1 Mac Studio Max. So does my older SuperDrive Model A1379 (same model as yours).

were kinda going In circles, but does it appear in finder after a restart as you previously said? if it is being shown in finder, there is a disc in it. you need to eject the disc. you can use the "eject" icon that appears next to it's name in finder. if that won't eject the disc, you can completely shut down the Mac. then press the power button, and IMMEDIATELY press and hold your mouse button or equivalent on a MacBook until the disc pops out.

I just asked about whether or not it is recognized to see where we go from here. so, is it in system preferences / settings? but I am a little confused by your statement "The Finder does not list it unless I restart the laptop". the superdrive should only appear in finder if there is a disc in the drive. that sounds to me like there is already a disc inserted.
