Wrong character displayed from mac keyboard, e.g. when pressing “a” “q” is shown. OK with external keyboard.

Hi

Recently this macbook has started displaying wrong characters.

However when using external keyboard or remote control keyboard there is no issue.

Examples:

When pressing “a” “q” is shown on screen.

Also other characters like “m” are not shown correctly using mac keyboard.

Setup: Macbook air A1466 2017 running OSX Monterey.

Any suggestions other than replacing keyboard of macbook?

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 10.15

Thanks, you are right. Issue was that customer had selected French as input source.

When switching back to Danish there is no issue.

yes, but q replacing a could well mean a switched keyboard layout, which can easily happen by mistake if you have more than one on your input source list.

Thanks, will do later when I have access to customer’s PC.

But since there is no issue with external keyboard I don’t think this can be root cause.

If there are any on that list which the customer does not in fact type with, I would recommend that they use the minus button to remove them.
