Sidecar & Continuity continues to be buggy!

Hi Apple Community & Engineers!

I enjoy occasionally using my iPad as a second monitor for my Macbook, but the Sidecar functionality continues to be buggy. While connecting the two devices by wire proves to be more stable than wireless, the connection still drops too frequently to be practical.

Issue Description: I connect my MacBook and iPad by cable, disabling the iPad's Wi-Fi to ensure a wired connection. A wireless connection would disconnect far more frequently. Initially, Sidecar operates seamlessly without latency. However, after a few minutes, the iPad screen freezes, though the MacBook remains responsive. The cursor can still move outside the MacBook's screen and be able to click on things (as if there is still a second monitor running), but the iPad display is unresponsive. To temporarily fix this, I need to disconnect and then reconnect the iPad as an extended display through my MacBook's Display Settings. This issue recurs approximately ten times per hour, leading me to eventually stop trying.

Tried: Researching through this forum, and tried every suggestion from the community with no success for a stable iPad-as-extended-display solution. It appears this is a widespread issue with little progress made by Apple to address it.

Equipment & Versions: Macbook Pro M1 Pro 16/512 16" on Sonama 14.2.1. iPad Pro 5th Gen 12.9" on iPadOS 17.3.1. Wifi: Stable. VPN: Off. Sidecar will not work at all with VPN services running, regardless whether connection is wired/wireless. This is unacceptable. Cables: Have Tried: Apple USB C to C charging cable; Apple Thunderbolt to Thunderbolt cable (EXPENSIVE, returned because it still doesn't work lol); generic versions of both types cables. iCloud: Both devices under same iCloud account.

Environment: Mostly just multiple windows open for programming work. The laptop is not running beyond its capabilities - RAM usage sits at 80% or below; operational temps are normal.

I would have thought that using the iPad as a simple second monitor would be trivial - and something I would expect seamlessness from as I have invested into your eco-system. I do not need any touchscreen functionality from the iPad OR wireless connectivity over Wifi/bluetooth. There are sub-$100 portable monitors on the market, but my $1000 iPad is struggling with this (seemingly) simple task!

Thank you for looking into it!

Jeff
