If I purchase a used iPhone online, then the person reported it as lost. what would be my next step into getting it unlocked?

I bought a used iPhone 12 pro max from eBay with the intention of using it. When I received it powered it on, I saw Locked to Owner. Now when I'm trying to contact the person, I purchased the used iPhone from I'm getting no respond or replies. In a situation like this knowing, I am living in a next country well for me an island. For apple support to say they can't help knowing they are upgrading their iOS and security feathers. It's like the first world country kicking me in my front saying they can't help and that's my lost. Make me to wonder the world could never change for the better. I had a case ID no. 102231684299 with apple support saying, " We are unable to complete your request to remove Activation Lock." it hurt my heart to know that's how customers are treated. Well like the support team said My lost not theirs!

Nothing. Return it for a refund. Use Ebay´s buyer protection service.

You will not be able to use it, unless the previous owner unlocks it.

There is no way for Apple to know whether it was stolen or not. Apple cannot enable devices that are marked as lost by their owners as that would go against all privacy laws.

Would you like it if anyone could just ask Apple to unlock your stolen or lost device?

If you cannot return it for a refund, consider it a learning experience. Never buy a device you have not confirmed is unlocked and usable.

Report the seller to ebay and try and get a refund.

That is risk you take buying a used device not Apples.
