How can I get rid of unread voicemail notifications on iPhone

In the Voicemail Tab of the Phone app, there is a blue dot next to the Network Provider Voicemail entry and I constantly regularly get push up notifications that there is new voicemail available. I already deleted all messages with my provider though and have no idea on how to get rid of the blue "unread" dot. It's not a huge issue though it is somewhat annoying.

SOLVED - I struggled with the same voice message issues - weeks of no voicemails but my IPhone 12 Pro showed 25 new voicemails (in the little red circle) in the phone app. I was attempting to retrieve messages by pressing the ‘Carrier Voicemail’ button - but it was empty.

Solution/answer: complement’s of the recent Ios17 update, Apple effectively built in voicemail hijacker that disables your carriers voicemail and personal greeting - in favour of Apples proprietary iCloud voicemail service… but they forgot to tell their customers.

If your phone shows unread voicemails… Here’s how to retrieve them: open the phone app > Go to the voicemail screen > click on the individual calls displayed on the screen one at a time > this will play the recorded voicemail (and provide a written transcript of the message) > message transcripts can be deleted, saved or texted (admittedly a handy feature… had Apple opted to explained it!).

The kicker: It took me a few weeks to figure this out… in the meantime, I missed a voicemail from a close family friend informing me his father had died along with the funeral arrangements… which I missed as it had happened the week before I got the message. So infuriating and complete b*lls**t on Apple’s part - last I checked phones were intended as communication tools… what the f**k Apple?!

To restore your iPhone’s original voicemail settings, once you’ve listened to all those missed voicemails (using the method described above):

1) Go to Settings  >

2) Scroll down to the green ‘Phone’ icon - click on it >

3) Scroll down to the tab called “Live Voicemail” - it will be marked ‘On’ > turn it ‘Off’

4) Close Settings (some iphones might require you to turn it off and on)

5) Open the Phone app > click on ‘voicemail’ > select ‘Carrier Voicemail’.

6) Access your voicemail as you would have previously > select ‘Greetings’ and confirm it’s set up and greetings are activated.

6) That’s it, your voicemail should be restored to its original format.

7) if you prefer to use Apple’s voicemail feature, just go back to Settings> Phone> ‘Live Voicemail’> and turn it ‘On’.

It does provide the option of a custom personalized recorded message or the generic message. Google ‘Apple live voicemail’ for lots of ‘how to help’.

Hope this helps.
