Missing red dot for unread messages on MacBook Pro's Mac Mail

In MacMail using my MacBook Pro (running Ventura 13.6.4) the red dot showing unread messages doesn't appear anymore when mail is closed. Can't seem to get it back and wasn't aware how much I relied on it. Went to notifications in System settings, but don't see anything helpful there. Help. TIA!!

Have you checked Mail-->Settings-->General-->New Message Notifications and make sure that Inbox is selected?

Also...System Settings (Preferences)-->Notifications-->Mail-->Badge Application Icon is enabled?

And just to be clear...you ARE referring to the red badge indicator that shows, in red, the number of unread messages? This red badge appears in the upper right section of the Mail app in the Dock. (For example, the far right icon circled here is the Mail app as it appears in the Dock with no unread emails).

And I'm assuming you've tried rebooting your Mac?
