How to enable bilingual typing on Mac

Hello all!

I am curious how to type on the Mac in both Spanish and English and to not have to change the keyboard layout in order to do so. Like I imagine many people these days, I switch between the two languages between apps and between conversations, so being able to type in both languages like I do on the iPhone would be priceless.

I've added Spanish as an optional language for the Mac and I've also added it as a keyboard layout. Is there anything else to do to get it to work like the iPhone where I can type in whichever language and have autocorrect work both ways automatically?

On an M1 MacBook Air running the latest version of Sonoma.
