Can't rearrange displays.

I am running Sonoma 14.3 on a MacBook Pro, I have 3 external monitors. I had it set up the way I like it but on restart the monitors rearranged themselves into a different ordering, when I go to system settings > displays to rearrange the displays to he prior ordering I am unable to drag the monitors to reorder. I have tried disconnecting monitors to lower the count but I am still unable to drag the monitor icons to rearrange the order. I know that 3 external displays may seem excessive but it is the way I am used to working. Help!

Thank you for the reply. Each screen shows unique content but where before the screens were ordered 1 - 2 - 3 - 4, after a restart they are now ordered 3 - 1 - 4 - 2, I did disconnect the monitor at original position 2 and now the order is 1 - 3 - 4. if I reconnect it the order reverts to 3 - 1 - 4 - 2. In systems settings I am unable to change the order in displays, the display images will not move. Installing EasyRes did not change anything.

Thank you the suggestion. Changing which port the cable attaches to does not affect display arrangement. The larger question is why I cannot adjust the arrangement of the monitors in system settings > displays? Even if I reduce the number of attached displays to 1. I am still unable to rearrange - the monitor icons will not drag into another position. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

"why I cannot adjust the arrangement of the monitors in system settings > displays?"

Are you using the usual method of dragging the rectangle that refers to the display and placing it relative to the other rectangle at a different spot doesn't work?

Is your System Settings/preferences locked so you can't make changes? If you see an orange padlock in the corner, that means you need to use the administrative password to make changes.

Is there a profile section with a school or business account linked? Any school or business managed computer needs to have the settings managed by them. They may not give you access to those settings.

Thank you for the ideas.

I am attempting using the usual method to rearrange the displays - which had worked prior on this system. The rectangles will not drag.

system settings are not locked - I am able to change other aspects of system settings

this system is not linked with another account.

additional notes: I have not done a OS software up date, the monitor ordering was fine until a restart (I shut down my system at night), upon restart the ordering changed.
