Apple Super Drive or DVD player app?

I have an iMac Catalina, I put a DVD in the SuperDrive and the DVD player app (that came with the computer) screen opened, but froze up( spinning rainbow ball), it's been working great up to this point. I can Force Quit the Player app and still access the VTS files, but the DVD Player app won't play the video.

Seems like the SuperDrive is reading the DVD ok, but the app isn't playing it.

If this is the case, do I download a new app, if so where?

iMac 27″, macOS 10.15

How is this SuperDrive connected?

If the SuperDrive is not directly connected to the Mac and there is an adapter connecting the SuperDrive to the Mac, is it the Apple USB-C to USB-A adapter, or is the SuperDrive connected via some third-party adapter or dock or hub? Use either a direct connection, or use the Apple USB-C ro USB-A adapter, and test again.

Do other DVD media such as commercial DVD recordings show the same misbehavior, or just this one DVD?

This probably isn’t the app, and I wouldn’t initially follow this path, but the process to reset the DVD player app is to reinstall macOS without erasing the contents of your storage.

Check that cabling again, as SuperDrive is USB-A and needs an adapter to get to USB-C.

This is the Apple adapter: USB-C to USB Adapter - Apple

Third-party adapters can look similar, and some third-party adapters don’t provide enough power.

It's connected direct with USB-C. I'm trying multiple DVDs and CDs some Commercial made, they worked, but the ones I just burned that played an hour before are still not playing.

Thank you for the info on replacing the app, I'll steer away from that path.

think I'll try a DVD burner cleaner.
