Battery Draining on my iPhone after recent iOS update

Well, i was waiting for a big update to solve the battery drain issue from iOS 17.4, but the new update x.x.1 make it worse, now my battery take only 5 hours on screen. On iOS 16 it was so different, my phone had something about 10 hours of screen, now its less than half.

I have finally found the reason for overheating and possibly also for unacceptable battery drain under 17.4.1 for my case (iPhone 13 Pro, 17.4.1). The culprit is "Require Attention for Face ID", "Attention-Aware Features" or perhaps both.

I have noticed that overheating always coincides with browsing time, comes from a specific spot in the back of the phone (roughly in the middle) and is not depending on the brightness level, on the connection type (wireless, LTE or 5G) or on the app (different web browsers, different news apps) in use.

One consequence of overheating was that, under 17.4.1, I reached max. 4-5 hours of browsing time (instead of about 10 hours) from a 100% charge and with 92% battery health (down from 98% since I have installed 17.4.1!)

Yesterday evening I came to the idea that the overheating might be caused by the iPhone continuously checking for attention before dimming the display ("Auto-Lock" is set to 30 seconds) because during screen-off times I had neither overheating nor significant battery drain.

As it turns out, switching off "Require Attention for Face ID" and "Attention-Aware Features" has completely solved the overheating problem.

Battery life also seems to be back to normal levels but I will have to check this through a few days of regular usage.

Hope this helps!

Same issue, bought a refurbished iphone 11 as my first ever iphone just 2 days ago, 100% BH, and i was dumbfounded when i saw that after like an hour and a half of actual screen time, my battery went from 100% to 30%, its insane! i literally had a 4 year old xiaomi before that which lasted me an entire day of screen time. I had to abstain from using the phone for any major tasks because my battery was depleting like i was running nasa launch code software on it. Its an understatement to say im heavily disappointed in the battery life of the phone. I really hope this is just a temporary issue because when the phone arrived to me, it was running ios 16.4 and still had major draining issues so i really don’t understand if they plan on fixing it

Hello once more~ There is no software fix for this issue. Obviously an iPhone 11 can not have a 100% battery health unless the battery has been replaced. The work wasn’t done by Apple so any issues you have take it up with the person you bought it from. If their reviews are as good as you say …they should replace, repair or refund…whichever makes you their customer happier. Take care and good luck.

Since Apple has been creating updates for the iOS, users have been complaining that their iPhone battery has weakened considerably. The latest update— 17.4.1 — is no different.

Apple knows this yet it continually issues updates with the same battery problem. Why can’t they solve the problem before issuing the update?

I guess I’m guilty of using too much logic.

Exactly the same problem. On my iPhone 15 after updating iOS to 17.4.1 i get no more than 5-6 hours of screen time, not playing games, just watching youtube and scrolling social media. It's horrible. Apple you need to fix this problem. There are times when the phone wastes 3 percent of its charge in literally a couple minutes. This should not happen!

My battery is new and has 100 percent capacity. I even tried doing a restore through iTunes, but no luck.

I read your post about another 17.4.1 update available (even when you have 17.4.1 installed through the phone) when you plug the phone into the computer. I tried it, and yes there was!

Does anyone have any idea why there are two different versions of 17.4.1? I have never seen two different updates with the same version number! Is that normal?

Yes, 13 Pro, too, and much faster battery drain since updating to 17.4.1. Furthermore, it doesn't seem to be getting charged on one of my Qi chargers.

I have two identical Qi chargers. The one connected to the 10W adapter works fine, but the one connected to the 5W adapter begins charging and then stops after a few minutes, so the phone won't continue charging. This was not happening before 17.4.1. Changes in power management logic maybe?

My wife and I both have IPads, an Ipad Air and an IPad Pro.

After the 17.1 update, both IPads lost the ability to shut down when the charging cables are attached. (We routinely charged our pads overnight with the iPads were powered down.)

Now the iPads power up automatically and will not power down if the charger is connected. We can not charge in off hours . We can only safely charge during waking hours.

Our pads have lost over 50% of their battery life since the 17.1 update. They run 24/7 and we fear the Pads are being damaged by the overloaded use.

We have tried re-starts with no change.

Is there a way to roll back updates?

It seems like Apple has implemented a forced obsolescence plan …..

This is not a battery issue.

restarts do not work either.

i have 2 independent iPads, an iPad Air and an iPad Pro. Different age, different usage, etc.

Both started failing the exact same way, the on the same day after the 17.1 update.

The pads will not stay powered off if the charge cord is plugged in. The power is draining at an alarming rate since that update. We are losing screen time. The phones will not shut off at night. They just keep rebooting and are killing the batteries.
