Battery Draining on my iPhone after recent iOS update

Well, i was waiting for a big update to solve the battery drain issue from iOS 17.4, but the new update x.x.1 make it worse, now my battery take only 5 hours on screen. On iOS 16 it was so different, my phone had something about 10 hours of screen, now its less than half.

I have finally found the reason for overheating and possibly also for unacceptable battery drain under 17.4.1 for my case (iPhone 13 Pro, 17.4.1). The culprit is "Require Attention for Face ID", "Attention-Aware Features" or perhaps both.

I have noticed that overheating always coincides with browsing time, comes from a specific spot in the back of the phone (roughly in the middle) and is not depending on the brightness level, on the connection type (wireless, LTE or 5G) or on the app (different web browsers, different news apps) in use.

One consequence of overheating was that, under 17.4.1, I reached max. 4-5 hours of browsing time (instead of about 10 hours) from a 100% charge and with 92% battery health (down from 98% since I have installed 17.4.1!)

Yesterday evening I came to the idea that the overheating might be caused by the iPhone continuously checking for attention before dimming the display ("Auto-Lock" is set to 30 seconds) because during screen-off times I had neither overheating nor significant battery drain.

As it turns out, switching off "Require Attention for Face ID" and "Attention-Aware Features" has completely solved the overheating problem.

Battery life also seems to be back to normal levels but I will have to check this through a few days of regular usage.

Hope this helps!

I have the 15Pro Max and since the update 17.4.1 my battery is draining super fast. I’m now at 54% and it’s only 3 PM and I hardly use the phone. Before 17.4 at 3pm it would be probably more like 70 or 80% at this point. Also, before this update, I would fully charge my phone before going to bed and wake up to 97% or even more. Now instead now it’s in the 80s. This is not acceptable for a 6 month old phone.

Hello,

the same applies to me too. Since the update to 17.4,

the battery drains by about 25% overnight in airplane mode.

I have an iPhone 12 mini. All updates.

I always got through the day well.

In desperation, I had the battery replaced at the Apple Store over the weekend.

But the 3 year old battery probably wasn't the problem.

A call to support wasn't very helpful.

The solutions here are very different.

What helps now?

I would like to avoid a complete reset of the cell phone.

Help!

15 pro max . Battery health 95%. Bought new in September 23. iOS 17.4.1.

every morning I watch and listen to YouTube for about 30 minutes while getting ready. Been doing this in all iPhones back a few generations. Screen on half the time but has neve softer battery more than 2-3 %. Since 17.4.1, the same listening trend has deceased my battery usage by 12%. The phone is also extremely hot.

something is wrong. All apps updated also every day.

thanks.

I have done it about 24 hours ago and while it seems to have improved battery life a bit I'm still noticing overheating and heavy battery drain while using certain apps...

I would have to mirror that, though in low power save it is now actually workable. Still low power save automatically disables which is a problem.. (on another note, what an extremely inconvenient forum this is with posts moving, no search, no clear reply link, etc)

Any news after installing the second release of 17.4.1?

No good news for me, unfortunately. Battery drain is still unacceptable and the app that is responsible for this on my iPhone 13 Pro (with "Low Power Mode" ON) is Apple's Mail app: 11m on screen and almost 10 hours of background activity over the last 24 hours!

Same problem faced . I have iPhone 13 and even contacted apple support and the worst part I experienced is the apple support team to which I contacted through apple support app. They literally told me that it is a battery so it will drain like if you use fuel in the car it will drain . This was the worst advice given to me . Apple is just defending itself and not solving any problem. Please solve this battery problem cause I am able to use my iPhone only for 4 hours after my charge. Guys there’s no solution please switch to Samsung and that’s what even I am going to do now if apple doesn’t help me within few weeks and I think this time is enough for them

Same here. I have two iPhones, a 12 and a 13Pro. The 13 is draining faster than before 17.4.1 but the 12 is crazy. 100% battery drained to 35% in an hour. I stream live news for an hour every day and the battery life would typically go down 10-15% in that time.

And it’s raging hot the whole time you are using it. I removed the cover but that made no difference.

The 13 Pro is doing a little better although it is draining faster than pre upgrade but at least it doesn’t get hot. What is going on!?!

iPhone 12. Battery health before installing iOS 17.5 was 93%. Battery health after installing iOS 17.5 over the last week has dropped down to 79% and is telling me to now service my battery.

My phone is draining battery like crazy. It heats up constantly. it seems like every time I put my phone in my hand. It is now hotter and hotter like somethings running in the background constantly and prior to this. I never had an issue.

I don’t know what’s going on, but Apple needs to fix their software because if I had 93% prior to installing and now I’ve got 79% then there is definitely an issue and it must be software.
