Seeking printer suggestion compatible to my iMac

I've always had good luck with Brother laser printers and had no compatibility issues. I'm currently using DCPL2540DW printer scanner that is around 7 years old and it works well with macOS Sonoma.

Also, you stated that you are running Sonoma 14.3.1.

The current version is 14.4

Whatever printer you get, make sure it supports AirPrint – so that you're not entirely at the mercy of the printer vendor for supplying driver updates when new versions of macOS come out.

Having checked both their website, I'd agree their support for newer MacOS's seems lacking. I suspect they want to rely on AirPrint.

That would be fine, but there ARE differences between the AirPrint drivers and the manufacturers' drivers. As an example, using the AirPrint driver with my Canon inkjet and printing a photo on glossy Canon photo paper, we don't get the same level of detail the Canon driver presents. The Canon driver lets the user select among all the different Canon papers available. The AirPrint driver is limited to plain paper and photo paper. I'm sure there are plenty of other differences as well...just wanted to describe one of them.

But...AirPrint is better than NO driver, I suppose. 😄
