Harder to clear recent calls

Up to a recent upgrade, maybe three weeks ago, it was easy to clear recent calls. Just edit, select all, clear. Now the interface has changed. There are new options leading off that aren't helpful, and I do see a select button, but it doesn't seem to do anything other than bring back the list of calls, each with a dash in red circle to its left. But you have to swipe them all one by one to see a trash can. This makes it really hard.

No, there really is a change in interface. I outlined the old steps above. Now if I hit Edit, I get two options, both not text but more like buttons. The new first option is Set up name & image (if I remember right), and I don't know what it's for (or why I'd want it). The second option is now select rather than select all. Anyway, I tried it again this morning, and after hitting Select I did see a clear option, in text at upper right. So with luck all is well now. I'm not sure what went wrong the other day.

Yes, there is a change in the interface. The biggest change is that it now lists all calls ever made on the iPhone, rather than just the last hundred.

You will only see Name & Image if you haven’t previously set up your shareable contact. The other is Select. There is no Select All, because when you tap Select a Clear button will appear that removes all of your call history.

I am facing the same issue described in the first post (I would like to bulk delete several calls in my recent calls list).

When I click Edit in the top left corner, I get two options:

  • Set up Name & Photo
  • Select (with a checkmark)

As a user, when I see a checkmark, I expect the interface to give me the options of the rows (calls) I want to select to delete (just like Messages), and not do it one by one.

The only thing that appears next to each row is the no entry (delete) sign ⛔️ , when tapped, it gives the bin option to delete. But doing it individually is a long process when we want to clean unknown callers from the Recent Calls list.

Is this a regression? Or is it designed to be like that? If so, I find it unuseful.

I am on iPhone 13 mini, iOS Version 17.5.1

Thanks. That explains it. I hadn't thought it meant simply "add to contacts" because the wording differs so much and because if I'd wanted to add a call to contacts, I'd normally do so right after the call. But it makes sense, and maybe it will help someone.

I hadn't noticed the other change about more than a hundred recent calls. I hadn't seen that kind of listing, only the last call or two (or, well, in a busy week up to maybe seven) because I use "edit" to clear recents all the time, and I'd be horrified if I saw a longer list of calls going back years. But I guess whatever works for you.
