Final Cut Pro Freezing Whenever I Try to Adjust Stabilization

Hey guys!

So I was nearly done with a project that involved 4K video and multiple layers, and when I went to tweak the stabilization on a clip on more time, the pointer turned into that spinning wheel and froze. I had to force quit the program, reopen it and try again. Same thing happened. After a bit of that and more testing, I quit all my programs, restarted my computer, and tried again. Still wouldn't work. I could play back the video, adjust the color, do other adjustments, but when I went to change the stabilization, Final Cut Pro would freeze. I deleted the unused rendered files and checked my storage - everything else seems fine. I usually would close down any other programs and not be connected to wifi for a quicker performance. This is my first time using and editing 4K footage, so is it something related to that?

Here are my computer specs:

macOS Monterey

Version 12.3.1

iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2015)

Processor: 4 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7

Graphics: AMD Radeon R9 M395X 4 GB

And I also have around 960 GBS left of storage. If you need anymore information to help me out, I'll be happy to give what I can!

What version of FCP is this?

Whenever the application crashes you should trash the settings. Hold ⌥ ⌘ as you double click the library you want to open to launch the application. A dialog appears asking you if you want to Delete Preferences. If you don't do this while double-clicking your library, just opening the application, it will open a default Untitled library.

Please post an EtreCheck report https://etrecheck.com giving the application Full Disk Access in Privacy & Security System Settings. Copy the report and use the Add Text button to paste the result into reply box.

Google's background updater was installed on 3/18 so that would be my first suspect. Google's keystone software is known to damage FCP and those are also installed but don't appear to be loaded. I'd still follow the instructions at https://chromeisbad.com and completely remove everything that Google installs across your drive. Then reinstall a fresh copy of FCP from a backup or the App Store.

The problem is not so much Chrome - even though it is a resource hog and is syphoning your data all the time...

It theses background processes that run even if Chrome is not running, and grab system resources for no reason, heavily affecting professional applications like FCP (but also others!).

Yes, you should delete Chrome, AND delete all its background daemons and agents.

Thanks for the report.

You should really update the OS. I think Monterey is on something like 12.7.4.

You're running a Cleaner app. It's not one I know, but most of them damage pro apps systems. You should do a complete delete on the application.

You also have Chrome installed. You should do a complete delete of that including these:

com.google.keystone.agent.plist (Not signed - installed 2023-12-06)
com.google.keystone.xpcservice.plist (Not signed - installed 2023-12-06)

It uses a huge amount of resources and sucks up the video toolbox.

I know I should update the OS, but need a new backup drive and haven't had the funds to purchase that yet. It is on my to-do list though! I'm using a Cleaner app that my sisters and I have been using for years. So far it's not been detrimental, but I suppose I could try removing it just see what would happen. It's Cleaner One, for reference.

And as to Chrome, are you meaning to delete Chrome? It's the only browser I use. Where do I delete those things you included?

Okay, thank you! I hope these things will help. I'll see what I can do with everything you suggested. Thanks for your help. If I do all these things and I still have problems, I'll come back for more advice. ;)

Thank you for getting back to me! It is the 10.6.5 Final Cut Pro version. I also deleted the trash settings like you suggested. Here is the report. I hope you can make sense of it!
