I recently got an iMac 24 inch computer and am having trouble opening my emails.
All messages (Invoices) that I receive in RTFD formation I don't get on my screen and I don't get it either
printed. PDF also causes problems with display on the screen and printing.
I use the standard "mail" program from apple. I've checked all the settings, but
can't find strange things. What am I doing wrong???

The only Apple applications that can open an RTFD bundle is TextEdit, or Pages. The third-party Bean word processor can open them, but LibreOffice ignores them.
I suggest you right-click on that RTFD email attachment and select Open Attachment which by default will open it in TextEdit, where you can export as PDF, or simply save the RTFD to your local filesystem.
I also recommend that you request whomever is transmitting RTFD invoices to you do so in PDF format to greatly reduce the preceding hassles.
I can not open RTFD format e-mails on my iMac.
