iphone messages only shows first letter of text

I had the same issue just today with my iPhone 15 pro max. I had no clue what to do. It was just on some msgs. Maybe not affecting the ones that were android on the other end. When I saw this and scrolled thru the comments I tried to scroll up and down on the msg but that didn’t work. I do have my font quite large. My kids say they can read it from across the room. Oh well, my eye sight isn’t so great. So I took it down to 100% and it all came back I went back up to about 130 and it’s still there. So I am certain we will have a new fix soon.

My dad just asked me about this tonight. He had the same issue and is on the third largest font size with bold text. Goes away by turning off bold text or turning down font size. But he needs both. iPhone 14 Pro Max.

Changing text size to a smaller size worked & now I see all of my messages. Hope Apple fixes this soon so I can return to a text size I can see!

As a work-around I change the font size to something smaller, the messages appear in whole. When I change back to my preferred larger font, the problem returns.

I’ve been having that problem forever and I didn’t think anyone else did. I finally got so exasperated. I googled it and found you guys. What seems to work for me is making the font size smaller. I’ve noticed that if it’s any larger than 160% I get the letters and not the text.

I changed the font on my phone to a smaller size and it fixed it immediately.

the messages with the blurbs, scrolled up and down, and they all came back. If they didn’t come back immediately, leave the conversation and come back in. There they were back.

I have iOS 15+

I set my font to the smallest size available, problem resolved.. at least you can see the messages. You can increase font again until it happens.. not a perfect solution, but it’s better than not seeing them at all.

This happens with my iPhone 14 Pro Max. In time, like the OP, the full message does show. For immediate access to the full message I found that swiping down on the screen to take the letter out of frame then swiping back up produces the whole message rather than just the first letter.

My iPhone 12 Pro Max does the same thing. Only cure I’ve found is to terminate the Message app and open it again.

I haven’t had it happen again since I changed the font size. I’d suggest starting there.

If you change the font to smaller, go back to the text, and then put font back on original size the full message appears. I don’t know how to stop it from happening

Turning my phone sideways (landscape) displays the full message.

I had the same issue. Tried resizing font and it worked but once I switched back, it reverted to showing only one letter. Then I asked the sender to send me a new text and everything went back to normal
