iPad Pro 5th Generation, will charge via magic keyboard, bot not through iPad USB C port.

Charging via the magic keyboard is mostly fine using most charging sources, but infrequently, it doesn't charge. However, removing the iPad from the keyboard and re-attaching it to the keyboard cures the problem and charging commences.

The iPad's USB C socket won't typically charge; however, sometimes, I can get a USB C to USB C cable connected to the Windows PC USB C port to charge it via the iPad port after unplugging and re-plugging it a few times.

Although this charges the iPad, there is no data exchange with the PC.

Using a Belkin power bank model, BPB002 connected USB C to a USB C iPad; it continually entered a cyclic charge/no charge scenario. The iPad was cycling charging and not charging continuously at about 1Hz, and the Belkin power bank seemed to do the same, switching from charging to not charging.

It is almost like neither device could agree on the direction of charge from/to the iPad.

Moving onto various USB C expansion docks, when plugged directly into the iPad, no power is received from the iPad port to the dock & no data transfer occurs (tested with Ethernet via the dock). When power is connected to the PD in; to the dock, the response varies between. 1. Nothing Happens. 2. The iPad recognises the device and data exchange works. 3. The iPad recognises the device AND charges, although infrequently. There is a slight coincidence/trend that when switching charging from the iPad port to the magic keypad port, it causes the no charging mentioned in paragraph 1, requiring the iPad to be lifted off the keyboard and then reattached.

It's bonkers!

Done all the cleaning of the USB port/reboot etc.

As described, your iPad's USB-C port has suffered either physical or electrical damage - and will require repair.

You would be best advised to visit the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store or Apple Authorised Service Provider (AASP) where the technicians will be able to test and assess your iPad. Here you will be able to explore your available options:
